Pigmy date palm
Two multiple specimens were chosen from acres of robelinii in homestead nursery and placed in pool planters in back, As as slow growing palm it is the best for under the screens.

Royal Palm
Gave several of these about 15 feet tall to Florida International University when we moved here in 1984. Lost two during H. Andrew . Bothwere in the root ballof the 100 year Quercus virginiana that fell to the SW. Cut one about 10 feet in 2004 that volunteered on the NE side of the pool was replaced by a volunteer cats claw 2 years later. Native 1780 2006 |

Large specimen lost in H. Wilma 2006, snapped trunk at base seen here. This tree survived Andrew by leaning 60 degrees to the west but snapped and fell to the north. Straighten after H. Andrew by using a wire come-along from the neighbor avocado to the East. Then tied to a ground screw anchor for 4 years. Tree was present in 1984 when we bought the house. Trimming fronds that year would have saved the tree! Temendous change in light to the yard after this. Cocoeae sf |

a All very slow growing in agreement with Fairchild estimate of 6 cm / year. Larger trees are about 25 –35 years old and the trunks are about 8 feet tall. |
